Ellen Stryker Bischoff

Born on Cape Cod and having grown up with all brothers, I learned the value of independence from a young age. We spent our summer days playing on Nauset; the salty waters curing anything and everything. At 20, I moved out to Jackson Hole for what would be my first summer out west. A few months later I came back for an extended winter break, and eventually returned as a college graduate later that year. The Tetons have a peculiar way of showing you your highest highs, and lowest lows; similar to Mother Ocean’s waves. The ups and downs of nature, whether it be within mountain peaks and valleys, desert canyons and floors, or ocean peaks and troughs, are a direct analogy to living; and that is how I choose to view my life. I am currently riding the wave train between Jackson, Wyoming and Burlington, Vermont.

I have always been enamored by textiles. Clothes are how I am able to express myself outwardly. They inspire confidence, and are a channel for my creativity. I started selling hand-printed tees for $5 in college, and have since fostered a deep passion for experimental natural dyeing. I am working on slow process, small batch clothing made with intention and packed with love. You can usually find me with a dye pot of some sort running in between activities, and in my down time I like to sit and listen to music while stitching.

My work is an evolving process; a constant wave train of inspiration through music, podcasts, the natural world, and interactions. I can’t nail down one particular style, but, I think you get the picture. I hope that my creations bring you comfort and confidence to be yourself. Thank you for being here!
